Whether you're thinking of buying or selling a property, investing in a rental or vacation home, or just planning an addition to your existing home, plumbing and storm systems will often play a considerable role in a good and bad investment. Unfortunately, standard property inspections don't address these systems adequately, if at all. What appears to bedazzle you on the outside, maybe crumbling and a ticking time bomb on the inside. Within days of regular use, a failing sewer system could cause a catastrophic flood in what was once an attractive investment. If you're lucky enough to catch it before the big flood, you would still be facing thousands of dollars in renovation costs to repair or replace the system.
Pre-purchase Sewer Inspection
Knowledge is power! Don't make the mistake of investing in a property that has not been fully inspected. If you have questions, we'll have answers, with no strings attached. Save yourself the time, money and headache and call Camera Inspection Pros today!
A sewer or storm system can fail for a multitude of reasons, including poor installation, damage caused by renovations, lack of use, and tenant abuse. Cast iron, which is the most commonly used material for sewer systems, either becomes extremely brittle or builds up, as shown above, eventually choking off the pipe. An inspection will show you exactly where your problems are.
Plastic composite pipes are typically free from deterioration, but are quite flexible and easily manipulated by unseen forces. Often, it's the natural elements that play a more significant role, such as an offset or back-pitched pipe due to the shifting of earth overtime or the more common root intrusion. A sewer inspection will allow you to see if any of these things are happening.
As seen in the photo to the left, root intrusions have become a significant dilemma for sewer and storm systems in the last decade due to a lack of rain and drought. Now, some of you may be telling yourselves that you are immune to or omitted from such issues because of the purchase of a newer property with a newer system. Naivety is the most costly mistake in our line of work. Schedule your sewer inspection today!
